Veteran Indian tennis player Rohan Bopanna and his Croatian partner Ivan Dodig advanced to the men’s doubles pre-quarterfinals by defeating Monaco’s Hugo Ness and France’s Arthur Rindernatch at the US Open here. The 14th seeded Indo-Croatian pair of players registered a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 victory over their unseeded rivals in a match that lasted one hour and 56 minutes on Saturday night.

Bopanna and Dodig were able to capitalize on all their three break points. He also defended three of the opposing players’ five break points. In the last 16, the pair will face fourth seeded American pair of Rajiv Ram and Britain’s Joe Salisbury. The pair were runners-up at this year’s Australian Open. Bopanna is the only Indian player to remain in the tournament. Sania Mirza and Ankita Raina had crashed out of women’s doubles after losing their first round matches. Sania also failed to cross the first round hurdle in mixed doubles.
