This move of the ministry is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s agenda to advance hydrogen based economy in an environment friendly clean manner. Modi had announced the National Hydrogen Mission in his address on Independence Day.
The Center on Tuesday said it has constituted a task force and an expert committee to prepare a blueprint for coal-based hydrogen production.
The Ministry of Coal in a statement said, “The Ministry has constituted two committees on Tuesday. One committee is to oversee the program and the other is a committee of experts, which will guide the ministry.” Modi had announced the National Hydrogen Mission in his address on Independence Day.
A task force has been constituted under the chairmanship of Vinod Kumar Tiwari, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Coal. The conditions prescribed for this include monitoring of activities related to coal-based hydrogen production and utilization and coordinating with ‘Coal Gasification Mission’ and NITI Aayog.
According to the statement, the terms and conditions laid down for the expert committee include identification and selection of experts in the country as members, progress in hydrogen technology and review of ongoing research projects in hydrogen technology. The expert committee is likely to submit its report in three months.
