Procurement of 56 transport aircraft approved for the Air Force, 16 will come from Spain; 40 Tata will make

The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) of the Central Government has approved the procurement of 56 (C-295 MW) transport aircraft for the Indian Air Force.

Within 48 months of the signing of the contract, 16 aircraft will be received from Spain, while 40 aircraft will be prepared and handed over to the IAF within 10 years by the Tata consortium in India. This is the first project of its kind in which a private company will manufacture military aircraft in India.

All the 56 aircraft will be fitted with indigenous Electronic Warfare Suite. Within 48 months of the contract, 16 aircraft will be received from Spain in flyaway condition.

The central government said that 6 thousand 600 people will get direct or indirect employment through this program. Earlier, Indian Air Force Chief RK Bhadauria said that the IAF is looking to procure around 350 aircraft in the next two decades.
